Abstract

Organic synthesis has profoundly shaped modern society since its seminal contributions from the 19th century, transitioning from isolating natural products to artificially constructing more and more complex molecules. This milestone revolutionized medicine, agriculture, and materials science, significantly extending human life expectancy and fueling global industrial progress.

Today, the field faces a dual paradigm shift. Researchers must venture into uncharted chemical space—accelerated by automation and AI—to discover novel therapeutics and advanced materials. Concurrently, pressing environmental imperatives demand a transition toward greener, sustainable methodologies, minimizing waste, energy consumption, and toxicity to ensure a harmonious balance between innovation and ecological preservation.
