1946 was the First Year Women were Admitted to the University of Tokyo

In the year of 1946, women were admitted to Todai for the first time. Incidentally, Todai was founded in 1877, which makes the year 2007 its 130th anniversary. However, at just 60 years, the history of women at Todai is not yet even half of that.

he six national universities where women can formally be admitted (and the year women were first admitted):

Tohoku Imperial University (1913)
Kyushu Imperial University (1925)
Tokyo Bunri University (1929)
Hiroshima Bunri University (1929)
Hokkaido Imperial University (1935)
Osaka Imperial University (1935)

In comparison with these six universities, it is clear that the University of Tokyo was very slow in admitting female students.
