Staff Training at Peking University and Tsinghua University

Date of activity: November 27, 2016 - December 2, 2016
During the six-day period from November 27th to December 2nd, 14 administrative staff members accompanied by three faculty and staff from the University of Tokyo visited Peking University and Tsinghua University for the purpose of participating in a staff training program.
From 2014, UTokyo has been conducting staff training programs mainly for staff members without much international affairs experience by visiting universities abroad. These programs aim to heighten awareness of University staff towards globalization. Interpreters and staff from the International Affairs Department accompany participants to help them communicate and exchange opinions with faculty and administrative staff members at the foreign universities.
For this staff training program in China, after visiting a few departments at both Peking University and Tsinghua University, the participants from UTokyo were able to expand their knowledge through faculty and administrative staff members’ explanation of their job responsibilities and holding discussions with them. They also joined a Todai Beijing Friendship Association’s gathering, and interacted and socialized with both alumni and other people affiliated with the group.
This staff training came into realization through the framework of “Strategic Partnership UTokyo” (details here). In 2015, UTokyo concluded a Memorandum of Strategic Engagement with Peking University, and Peking University senior administrators visited UTokyo for a training program (details here). To further develop our strategic partnership with Tsinghua University, UTokyo has been promoting educational and research exchanges in various fields.
By utilizing comprehensive and mutually beneficial relationships with strategic partner universities, UTokyo strives to advance and promote various international and interdisciplinary educational and research exchanges, and to enhance the mobility of academic and administrative staff and students across various boundaries. Through these various efforts, UTokyo will continue to further globalize the university.
