Strategic Partnerships Project

Strategic Partnerships are expansive, mutually-beneficial, and special relationships with a limited number of overseas universities that go beyond the usual academic exchange agreements by taking advantage of the strengths of UTokyo and each strategic partner university.

Aims

By utilizing the diverse activities with strategic partner universities, UTokyo is able to promote diverse and interdisciplinary exchanges in addition to international educational and research exchanges. This enables UTokyo to enhance the mobility of its academic and administrative staff and students, both at the graduate and undergraduate levels, all in an effort to gear UTokyo’s excellent educational and research activities to a more international environment, as well as expand UTokyo’s presence and increase its profile globally.

Project Overview

This project builds on the various projects that existed in various departments through the strategic partnership frameworks between 2014 and 2016. In addition to promoting interdisciplinary research and education with the support of the Division for Global Campus Initiatives, it also aims to develop working frameworks for, among others, the acquisition of external funding by creating and strengthening sustainable relationships for the future. UTokyo currently supports various projects conducted with the nine primary strategic partner universities shown below, as well as prospective strategic partner universities.
