2020 University of Tokyo Autumn Semester Matriculation Ceremony Held
The University of Tokyo 2020 Autumn Semester Matriculation Ceremony was held at Yasuda Auditorium on Thursday, September 24, 2020.
The ceremony was held only with 4 representative new students, in order to minimize risk of infection of the novel coronavirus. With the attendance of President Gonokami, executive vice presidents and deans of the graduate schools and faculties on the stage in their academic gowns, the ceremony began. The ceremony continued with a speech from President Gonokami addressed to new students, followed by a speech from Suda Reiji, dean of the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology. Two new students (Mr. Bao Xuefeng, a Doctoral student from the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary information Studies, and Ms. Karen MURAYAMA Isaacs from the College of Arts and Sciences) then took an oath on behalf of the entire incoming class, after which the ceremony was concluded.
A livestream of the ceremony was provided, and watched by many new students and their families who were unable to attend the ceremony, as well as the general public.
