AY 2023 Graduate Matriculation Ceremony held

The University of Tokyo AY 2023 graduate matriculation ceremony was held at the Nippon Budokan on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 12th.

Approximately 2,800 new students and 2,800 members of their families attended the ceremony, making for a total of approximately 5,600 attendees.

President Fujii Teruo, the executive vice presidents, deans of the Faculties and Graduate Schools and the directors of University Institutes went on stage, along with special guests Dr. Vera Songwe, Chair of the Liquidity and Sustainability Facility, co-Chair of the High Level Panel on Climate Finance, and Senior Fellow, Brookings Institution; and Mr. Muneoka Shoji, chairman of the UTokyo Alumni Association.

President Fujii Teruo gave a speech to the new students on behalf of the university, followed by a speech from Dean of the Graduate School of Education Katsuno Masaaki. Dr. Songwe and Mr. Muneoka then gave congratulatory messages to the new students. Next, Mr. Li Yuanjie, a student in the Graduate Schools for Law and Politics, took an oath on behalf of the entire incoming class, after which the ceremony was concluded.

Livestreams of the ceremony were provided, and watched by many new students and their families who were unable to attend the ceremonies, as well as the general public.
