Welcoming Ceremony for students newly enrolled in AY 2020 held

June 27, 2021

The University of Tokyo Welcoming Ceremony for students newly enrolled in AY 2020 was held at Yasuda Auditorium on Saturday, June 26 and Sunday, June 27, 2021.

This ceremony was set up as an opportunity to welcome students newly enrolled in the AY 2020 spring semester, whose Matriculation Ceremony was cancelled because of the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The ceremony was held eight times, six times for undergraduate students and twice for graduate students, and about 2,100 undergraduate students and 700 graduate students attended in total.

With the attendance of President Fujii, executive vice presidents, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (at the ceremonies for undergraduate students) and dean of the Graduate School of Public Policy (at the first instance of the ceremony for graduate students) on the stage in their academic gowns, President Fujii addressed the students who had newly enrolled in AY 2020.

In the two instances of the ceremony which were live streamed (one undergraduate and one graduate), representative students (Mr. KOBAYASHI Kazuya from the College of Arts and Sciences and Mr. OSAKI Yuta from the Graduate School of Public Policy) took an oath on behalf of all of the students newly enrolled in AY 2020. The livestreams were watched by many students and their families who were unable to attend the ceremony, as well as the general public.
