Abstract
This presentation summarizes my first experience presenting at the PanSIG 2025 conference. First, I will provide an overview of PanSIG 2025, a conference that welcomes diverse pedagogical approaches to language education. In the second part, I will delve into my contribution to the conference, which explored how Team-Based Learning (TBL) can help build team cohesion, foster accountability, and stimulate discussion in courses taught in English to a mixed audience of Japanese and foreign students. Specifically, I will explain how backward syllabus design, one of the pillars of TBL, helped me create group activities for my Global Liberal Arts course,"Sustainability in Japanese Architecture". This presentation will be helpful for instructors teaching discussion-based courses in which students must not only collaborate but also form cohesive and effective teams to solve complex problems.
