CEDEP Symposium “Slow Pedagogies in Early Childhood Education”

In the fast-changing society, childhood seems to be “accelerating” as well. Prof. Alison Clark has been questioning the “time” of early childhood and advocating the value of “slow pedagogy” and “slow knowledge” to challenge the trend of acceleration. In this symposium, she will talk about slow pedagogy based on her recent book, “Slow knowledge and the unhurried child: time for slow pedagogies in early childhood education”. We will consider what practices enable “unhurried children” and “unhurried adults”.

Alison Clark
PhD. Professor of Early Childhood Education at University of South-Eastern Norway, Honorary Senior Research Fellow, UCL Institute of Education, London, UK.

She developed the Mosaic approach, a visual, participatory research framework for listening to young children’s views and experiences with Professor Peter Moss. Her research interests include young children’s rights, slow pedagogies and early childhood environments.
