The University Museum of the University of Tokyo (UMUT) is a multi-faceted research facility of the university. Located on the Hongo Campus, it directs major satellite organizations in the Koishikawa Annex (Currently closed) and the Intermediatheque (Marunouchi), along with a large number of smaller temporary exhibition units called UMUT Mobile Museums that have been installed across the world.
The exhibitions at these facilities primarily stem from original research conducted at the university. The permanent exhibition at the Hongo Main Building, the UMUT Hall of Inspiration, aims to show how research on natural and cultural history are conducted in the university, displaying scientific specimens related to the history, results, and actual laboratories of the research.
