All applications for admission to the UTokyo Day Nursery are submitted online.


The Certificate of Employment (Separate Form A) and Student Certificate (Separate Form B) will be uploaded in data when you file an online application.
Forms can be downloaded from the required document column.
When you file an application, please prepare on hand scandal data such as certificates (PDF files, image files, etc.) so that it can be uploaded online.

Availability of the UTokyo Day Nursery

Hongo Keyaki Day Nursery:      Has vacancy
Shirogane Himawari Day Nursery:   Has vacancy
Komaba Mukunoki Day Nursery:   Has vacancy
Kashiwa Donguri Day Nursery:       Has vacancy

Please contact each nursery or the department in charge directly for the availability of nurseries* other than the UTokyo Day Nursery.

*Poppins Nursery School Todai Hongo Sakura, the University of Tokyo Hospital Ichou Nursery School, Tanpopo Nursery School, Komaba Area Nursery School

The entrance application guidelines (2024)

How to Apply

If you wish to use the nursery, obtain the ‘User’s Guide (and explanation of important matters)’ from the Day Nursery Section in charge of the desired nursery and confirm the procedure of application and use, etc.​, and apply from the application format. The link will be displayed when the application period for admission is open.

‘User’s Guide (and explanation of important matters)’ can be obtained at each Day Nursery Section. If you want to get User's guide, please contact us with list your faculty (graduate school) , job title in UTokyo and the email address of the University of Tokyo which you can receive it.(If the University of Tokyo's e-mail address is not available during childcare leave, please include the university's e-mail address and the desired email address.)

A) Regular Daycare: The first day of the month two month prior to the desired enrollment month (or the following day when the first is Saturday, Sunday or national holiday. The same shall apply hereinafter)
B) Occasional Daycare: The first day of the month one month prior to the desired enrolment month
*Due to the large number of applicants entering the nursery in April, the deadline is Thursday, January 4, 2024. Selection results will be announced on or after February 10, 2024.

For Regular Daycare, you can only be applied for nursery schools that are the first choice. For Occasional Daycare, you can be applied for multiple nursery schools.

Selection for admission is conducted every month if there is a vacancy.

* When applying, you will need to sign in with [10-digit common(UTokyo Account)ID@utac.u-tokyo.ac.jp] and UTokyo Account password. If you're signed in with a different account, sign it out before accessing it.

* If you have not yet been hired or enrolled and do not have a UTokyo Account, we will provide you with a separate application form. Please provide your name, contact e-mail address, expected date of hire (enrollment), job title, etc., and the name of the department to which you will belong, and ask the Day Nursery Section you wish to apply for "Application Form URL Request".

* Since it is not possible to save in the middle of the application, please proceed to the input screen of the application format with plenty of time.
 It takes about 30 minutes to complete the application.

* Applicant and spouse’s proof of employment [Designated form (Japanese)](designated form A) and Applicant and spouse’s student ID form (designated form B) will be uploaded with data when applying online. Please prepare scan data (PDF files, image files, etc.) such as certificates at hand.

Regular Daycare  【For all applicants】
  1. Applicant and spouse’s proof of employment [Designated form (Japanese)](designated form A)                                                                                                  *If the spouse is self-employed or freelance, he/she must submit a certificate of employment in a different format. Before applying for admission, please contact the administrative staff of the day nursery you want to use.
  2. Applicant and spouse’s student ID form (designated form B)                                *If the spouse belongs to a university other than University of Tokyo, attach " proof of student status describing the period of enrollment" instead of the Student ID.
  3. A copy of the result notices of the selection for other off-campus nurseries.
    *Please submit promptly after receiving. If you are unable to submit the result notice or there are circumstances that prevent you from applying to other off-campus nurseries, please submit a statement of reasons (form optional) or report the reasons on the form.   
  4. Documents indicating the status of the spouse, such as a medical certificate, if the spouse wish to use a nursery school for reasons other than work or school.
Occasional Daycare
  1. Applicant and spouse’s proof of employment [Designated form (Japanese)](designated form A)                                                                                                  *If your spouse is self-employed or freelance, he/she must submit a certificate of employment in a different format. Before applying for admission, please contact the administrative staff of the day nursery you want to use. 
  2. Applicant and spouse’s student ID form (designated form B) ※ If the spouse belongs to a university other than University of Tokyo, attach " proof of student status describing the period of enrollment" instead of the Student ID.
  3. Documents indicating the status of the spouse, such as a medical certificate, if the spouse wish to use a nursery school for reasons other than work or school.

Selection for admission

The Nursery Steering Committee shall review and discuss whether to accept applications both for regular daycare and occasional daycare.
In certain cases, preliminary interview or the submission of a medical certificate may be required. Once the selection process has finished, Day Nursery Section shall inform applicants of the result by Email.

*Selection is not made in order of receipt or by lottery.

※Your child is not necessarily always accepted because the nursery has now received so many applications for admission. Please take the application for nurseries on other campuses into consideration at the same time.

※As to Ocassional Daycare, your child is not necessarily always accepted at your desired date & time, because the nursery accepts children only if a vacancy occurs in Daily Daycare.

Handling of Personal Information

The Personal Information entered in application forms will be used only for the selection process, never used for other purposes.

Response to Covid-19 Infections

Response of the UTokyo Day Nursery may change depending on the activity restriction level of the University of Tokyo.
