On July 10th, 2020, we will hold an interactive event through Zoom, inviting Dr. Masahiko Hayashi, a UTokyo graduate and currently working for the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science(JSPS) as Director of Bonn office in Germany.

The event is titled “When I was 19. ~From UTokyo to an Astronomer~”. Dr. Hayashi will share his experiences when he was a student at UTokyo and his personal history that led him to become an astronomer. After his talk, we will have a small group discussion, followed by a question and answer session.
This is a great opportunity for you to think about your future as well as to learn about astronomy.
Through participating in this event, you can submit an activity report on the category 4 “international activities” of the Go Global Gateway program.

*Dr. Masahiko Hayashi
Research field: Radio Astronomy, Infrared Astronomy
Dr. Hayashi graduated from the University of Tokyo and obtained his Ph. D. degree in astronomy, becoming an astronomer.
In 1994, he was involved in the Subaru Telescope project at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), instrumental in its construction and management. He had lived in Hawaii for 12 years for doing research with it.
After teaching at the School of Science at the University of Tokyo from 2010 to 2012, he became Director-General of NAOJ.
In 2018, he started working for the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) in Bonn, Germany, as Director.
