“When I was 19: Engagement, Protest, and Hope in 1968-69”
Guest Speaker: Mr. Glen S. Fukushima
The Go Global Gateway program will be hosting “When I was 19” on Thursday, October 6, 2022. Our guest this time is Mr. Glen S. Fukushima.
Mr. Fukushima is a third generation Japanese American who was born and raised in California. He is currently serving as Vice Chair at Securities Investor Protection Corporation and Senior Fellow at Center for American Progress. He is also the former President of American Chamber of Commerce in Japan and former Deputy Assistant United States Trade Representative for Japan and China.
While he was a graduate student at Harvard University, he came to Japan to study at the University of Tokyo as a Fulbright scholar. His research was on the Japanese antimonopoly act and policy.
In May 2022, Mr. Fukushima announced the establishment of the “Fulbright-Glen S. Fukushima Fund” through a $1 million donation. This fund will significantly expand study and research opportunities for Japanese and American students.
Mr. Fukushima’s talk is entitled “When I was 19: Engagement, Protest, and Hope in 1968-69.” He will be sharing his experiences from his student days as well as his career after graduation.
This event will serve as an inspiring opportunity for all the students to learn from someone who has had a distinguished trans-Pacific career. You will also have chances to ask him questions directly during the Q&A session.
