Associate Professor EMA Arisa elected to the United Nations’ High-Level Advisory Body on AI

Associate Professor EMA Arisa (Science and Technology Studies, STS) was appointed to the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence.

The Advisory Body consists of 39 members selected from more than 1,800 nominees from across 128 countries who will consult on global AI governance in advance of the Summit of the Future in September 2024.

The UN Secretary-General is convening a multi-stakeholder High-level Advisory Body on AI to undertake analysis and advance recommendations for the international governance of AI, while addressing its risks and uncertainties. Bringing together up to 38 experts in relevant disciplines from around the world, the Body will offer diverse perspectives and options on how AI can be governed. 
The final recommendations will be published ahead of the Summit of the Future in September 2024.

Assumed current position in Tokyo College after working at the Institute for Future Initiatives, the University of Tokyo. Visiting Researcher at RIKEN Center for Advanced Intelligence Project in Japan. She is a researcher in Science and Technology Studies (STS), and her primary interest is to investigate the benefits and risks of artificial intelligence by organizing an interdisciplinary research group.
