Global Competency, Empathy, and COIL: Takeaways from the Annual Conference on Global Higher Education at Lakeland University Japan
Date: Wednesday, July 17, 12:15~13:00 (JST)
Online: Zoom
Language: English
Speaker: Incoronata (Nadia) Inserra
Abstract
In this session, I share my experience as a conference speaker and attendee at the Tenth Annual Conference on Global Higher Education at Lakeland University Japan. In particular, I will discuss Japan’s recent efforts to build global competency in higher education by boosting study abroad programs and inviting more international students to Japan. I will also discuss current struggles and limitations of this approach, mainly through student and faculty perspectives. Finally, I will share my own experience with Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) pedagogy, which aims at boosting global competency and empathy while also offering global exchange opportunities to students from a variety of backgrounds.
Speaker Bio
