Overview:
GTIE (Greater Tokyo Innovation Ecosystem) is a program jointly led by three institutions: the University of Tokyo, Waseda University, and Tokyo Institute of Technology. The program carries out four activities: Entrepreneurial activity support, Entrepreneurship human resources development, Entrepreneurial environment establishment, and Formation and development of ecosystems, in order to foster university start-ups that can change the world.
The University of Tokyo is in charge of practical education activities for commercialization based on research results (proprietary technologies) for researchers at universities and research institutes and also R&D engineers and businesspersons in corporations.
Main features of the program:
The program consists of four phases.
-1st phase: Create an initial business plan by learning basic methods for commercializing research results and also through mutual discussions among participants.
-2nd phase: Strengthen each team through pitching and interaction.
-3rd phase: Make a hypothesis-based business plan through mentoring and customer interviews. Perform pitches for overseas investors in Silicon Valley and San Diego.
-4th phase: Verify business plans (by individual consultation).
Intended for: University researcher (graduate level or higher), national laboratories researcher, corporate personnel (research or business development)
Audience capacity: No limit for the 1st phase (Selection may be carried out starting from the 2nd phase.)
