“When I was 19” is a series of online events in which invited speakers with global experience tell stories of the time when they were as old as current first- or second-year students. On June 26, 2020, we invited Ms. Sachiko Kondo, who is a UTokyo graduate currently working for the World Bank (WB), to give a talk entitled, “From UTokyo to the World Bank.” Students who have submitted Go Global Statements were eligible to apply for this event and participants interacted with Ms. Kondo in a question and answer session.

In her talk, Ms. Kondo told the participants about the reason why she aspired to work for international organizations, her student life at UTokyo, her career path to a Natural Resource Management Specialist at WB, and advice for the current first- and second-year students.

After the talk, the participants divided into small groups and discussed questions they wanted to ask Ms. Kondo. She popped into each group and interacted with the participants. It was a precious opportunity for the participants to learn about WB.

In the question and answer session, the participants asked Ms. Kondo various questions such as what they should do during the undergraduate program. The participants had a lot of inspiration through the interaction with Ms. Kondo.

We are planning to host similar events for students who have registered for the Go Global Gateway program. Please join our future events!
