Language Exchange Program (Kashiwa)

You can brush up your language skill through teaching the language you know to someone who speaks the language you're learning.

Application is open!
In order to confirm that you are a UTokyo student, please register with an email address issued by the University of Tokyo (domain name: u-tokyo.ac.jp).

What is Language Exchange Program (Kashiwa)

This program aims to help students, researchers, and staff on Kashiwa campus to learn about each other's language, to deepen mutual understanding of each culture, and to promote friendship.

Participants: Anyone who studies or works at Kashiwa campus, the University of Tokyo

How do I apply?

Step1
First, please register your information from online application form below.

Step2
After submitting the application form, KIO will send you a list of applicants within days. If you find a partner who you wish to meet from the list, please e-mail KIO(kio.adm @ gs.mail.u-tokyo.ac.jp) the following information. [1]Your name & ID#, [2]ID# of the partner, [3]Convenient date/time for the first meeting (Several choices appreciated). KIO office may contact you when we find the person matchs your desires.

Step3
KIO staff will arrange the first meeting date and contact you after the date and time are fixed. The place is at KIO (Env. Studies Bldg. #124). "Language exchange Program" is completely flexible. You and your language exchange partner will decide what to do together, when and where to meet by yourselves.

FAQ

Q. I have more than 2 preferred languages to exchange. Can I apply for more than one language?
A. Yes, you can apply for more than one language. Please write as much as you want on the online application form.

Q. What can I expect from my language exchange partner?
A. "Language Exchange Program" is very flexible – You and your partner decide what to do together, when and where to meet up. But remember, your partner is not a language teacher. If you prefer to study the language seriously, we ask you to go to a language school.

Q. Are there any places KIO provides to us?
A. We can provide a room on the B1 floor of Environmental Studies Building to you for the purpose of exchanging languages. Please email KIO to check the availability of the room, and apply for reservations by 5pm of the day before you use.

Q. Who can I contact about "Language Exchange Program"?
A. If you feel you need our assistance, please contact: kio.adm @ gs.mail.u-tokyo.ac.jp

Q. Should I report how things are going with my language exchange partner to KIO afterward?
A. We hope so! We request all participants to submit a progress report to us within 3 months after the first meeting day in order to know how things are going with your language exchange partner. To improve our service, we also need your feedback and requests about this program.
