Promoting D&I with the Action Plan for Work Style Reform

Takao SOMEYA, Dean, Graduate School of Engineering

D&I promotion and work style reform are two sides of the same coin. The Graduate School of Engineering is promoting reforms with the aim of creating a workplace in which all employees can play an active role. Based on the results of a survey of all faculty and staff, we developed the “Action Plan for Work Style Reform,“ which includes D&I promotion as one of the main pillars, and posted and publicized it on the top page of the website of the Graduate School of Engineering on April 1st, 2022. In parallel, we developed various programs to support life events, including extension of contract terms for faculty members who take maternity or childcare leave, guidelines to set meeting hours as 9:00-17:00 on weekdays in principle, and extension of age limits in awards, prizes and research support programs for young researchers for those who take maternity or childcare leave. In addition, we will start support programs from the summer semester of this fiscal year for babysitters and housekeeping services, childcare and nursing care support, and assistants.
