Overview

The University of Tokyo attaches great importance to global education and encourages students to study abroad and participate in international activities.
This time, we are planning a special event featuring Melissa Fleming, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications.

After leading the Global Communications Division at the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Ms. Fleming assumed her current role in 2019, where she oversees the UN’s global campaigns, multilingual news services, and public engagement initiatives. She also spearheaded the development of the UN Global Principles for Information Integrity, aimed at fostering healthy information ecosystems. With a rich background in journalism and communications roles across international organizations, Ms. Fleming is also a TED speaker, the author of A Hope More Powerful than the Sea, and the host of the official UN podcast Awake at Night.

This event will take place during her visit to the University of Tokyo. Ms. Melissa Fleming will engage in a dialogue with President Teruo Fujii, Executive Vice President Kaori Hayashi and students. This event is moderated by Vice Director of the Center for Global Education (GlobE), Professor Mari Yoshihara. We invite all UTokyo students join this informative, meaningful, and inspiring event!
