Direct Application Programs
(Programs by Partner Universities)

Many attractive programs allow for direct application, and you can develop decision-making skills and ability by following the application procedures on your own. Additionally, it is beneficial for improving language proficiency and deepening your understanding of the local education system and culture.
Some programs offer discounts and financial assistance for UTokyo students, so please check for these opportunities.

"Program List" on this page below mainly introduces programs that are open to UTokyo students through partner universities, university alliances, or public institutions affiliated with UTokyo, focusing on those offering discounts or financial support for UTokyo students.

2. Summer Courses by Overseas Universities

This page features summer programs held every year at partner institutions of the University of Tokyo and world-class universities. Applications usually begin around January, and depending on the program, some remain open until June.

3. Internship Programs by Overseas Universities

This page features internship programs (such as research internships) that are held annually at UTokyo’s partner universities and other top universities worldwide. Applications for programs held in the summer often open in December or later, with some deadlines as early as December. Programs held at other times accept applications on a rolling basis as opportunities become available.

・ Participation in external programs does not include special accommodations for course registration or academic schedules at our university. ・ Before applying, you must consult with the academic affairs office of your faculty or graduate school to confirm that participation will not pose any issues and to receive guidance on any important considerations.
・ If it is determined that participation interferes with your academic responsibilities, you may be denied participation in the program, even after acceptance.
・ You will also need to be careful concerning safety and risk management.
Once your participation in the program is confirmed, please refer to this page for your travel preparation.
・ It is recommended to apply well in advance of the deadline so that you can deal with any insufficiencies in the application documents and visa applications (if applicable). Please check the application deadline for each program.

If you are participating in a direct application program and meet the requirements, you may apply for scholarships such as the "Go Global Scholarships Short (3 months-1 year) / S-Short (less than 3 months) Study Abroad Scholarships". For more details, please refer to this page.

Key Point: This program offers a new form of study-abroad experience, allowing students to engage in an English-speaking environment on their familiar campus as “local students” of the host university—an important presence with whom international participants look forward to interacting—and to take part from the perspective of welcoming students from abroad. UTokyo students are eligible for a 90% discount on the tuition fee.

SAF is a non-profit international study abroad support organization that offers semester and year-long study abroad programs, summer programs, as well as short-term field study programs during the summer and spring. Students can apply for various programs, please check the website for more information.

NSTC International Internship Pilot Program
