SMART Lyon Program

Overview

This short-term program offered by INSA Lyon is for students with Engineering and Science backgrounds or interest to the fields. The theme of the program is “Smart City”. The main objective of the program is to gain overview of topologies and protocols used in the theme through lectures in the related fields. Students can also learn cross-cultural understanding through French language class, cultural experiences, and interactions with local students. Students studying other topics can also apply to this program if they have an Engineering or Science background. At the completion of the program, students will be given 2 ECTS credits.

(Number of UTokyo Students Accepted) 10 undergraduate and graduate students (see Eligibility below)
(Program Costs) 1,100 Euros (Costs cover accommodation in students' residences on campus (shared bedroom for 2 with small kitchen and bathroom), breakfast, and lunch from Monday to Friday. Other expenditures such as airline tickets, meals, personal expenses, and so on are to be paid individually.)
(Scholarships) JPY 80,000/person
(Eligibility Criteria and Requirements)
-Applicants must be students who are enrolled as full-time undergraduate students or graduate students in Science or Engineering field at the University during the period of application and the program. (Those who are on temporary leave from the University or those who will lose their student status due to graduation, etc. during the time of the program are not eligible to apply.)
-【Insurance/Overseas Student Safety Management Assistance】After passing the internal selection process and being accepted into the study abroad program, students are required to take out Japan Educational Exchanges and Services (JEES) “Futai Kaigaku” and the “OSSMA” (Overseas Student Safety Management Assistance) provided by Emergency Assistance Japan Co., Ltd. as a means of safety management during the program at their own expense (this will not be paid for by the University). Taking out this insurance and OSSMA will be one of the requirements for applying to a study abroad program through this application. Details of the insurance and OSSMA will be sent to students who are accepted into the programs at a later date.
-Students must follow all instructions or warnings given by UTokyo and the host institute.

Application Deadline

Application Procedure

Please make sure to complete the following procedure by the deadline above.
1. Please inform International Exchange Group of UTokyo Administration Bureau that you need “Authorization form by my home university” on the program website of INSA Lyon by email.
・Subject: Application for “SMART Lyon”
・Please download Written Oath from here and attach filled in/signed (electronic signature acceptable) PDF to the email.
・Please make sure to include your [1]name in Japanese (first name and family name in kanji or katakana. Applicable to those who have name in kanji or katakana), [2]name in English (first name and family name as written on passport),[3]affiliation,[4]university year,[5]student ID number,[6]e-mail address in the main text of the email.
・Please send the email to: studyabroad.adm[at]gs.mail.u-tokyo.ac.jp
2. International Exchange Group of UTokyo Administration Bureau will send completed “Authorization form by my home university” back to you within a couple of working days. Please proceed with other Application Documents alongside.(You can save Online Application Form.)
3. After receiving “Authorization form by my home university” from International Exchange Group of UTokyo Administration Bureau, upload it on Online Application Form and submit other necessary documents on Online Application Form as instructed, then complete your application.

Notes

・Information of students who are going to join the program will be shared to UTokyo from the host institution.
・Before applying, please confirm and consult with your affiliated College, Faculty, or Graduate School at the time of participation to the program about participating in the program to ensure you fully understand issues concerning study-abroad. In case it turned out that participation to the program will affect your study plan at UTokyo, your affiliated College, Faculty, or Graduate School may not permit your participation to the program even after your are accepted by the host institution.
・Please confirm and consult with your affiliated College, Faculty, or Graduate School about participating in this program and whether or not the credits you earn at this program can be transferred to UTokyo.
