Study on Earth Environmental Engineering including Water Resources

  • SDG6 Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
  • SDG13 Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
  • SDG15 Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss

In order to build a sustainable society by overcoming natural hazards and responding flexibly to global issues such as climate change, deforestation, and water shortage, we have made estimates and predictions of impacts by large-scale numerical simulation using integration and data mining of earth observation and its resultant information. We have assessed how we can effectively and efficiently resolve such global issues, and will utilize such assessment to support the development of countermeasures as risk management. We have launched an international project for advancing the co-designing of integrated strategies, with adaptation to climate change in Thailand. We have also promoted the research on future estimation and prediction of impacts and have integrated good practices that are lacking in developing countries. Our estimation results of vegetation variabilities and land use are already used widely. On the other hand, we are leading the world in the development of global hydrologic water resources model in light of human activities and its application. Thus, we aim to contribute to the world through “the science and technology diplomacy”.
