Creating a “UTokyo Method” for young historians’ international career development: Systematic and seamless support for graduate students from first presentations at international conferences to publications in top journals

Under the auspices of the Historians’ Workshop, an institution founded in 2016, this project aims to develop new methods to train young historians in Japan for careers on the world stage. Our training events will prepare them to present their fresh research at international conferences and in English-language publications. We also help them learn how to communicate their findings to the general public. Our long-term goal is to offer guidance into the future by taking lessons from the past. Our workshops, mostly organized by young scholars themselves, can be adapted across the board to enrich other disciplines in the humanities and social sciences.
