The scientific ecosystem project will reinvigorate historical research systems with elemental principles and programs for effective, sustainable research coordination across the community. Scientific progress is increasingly dependent on the intersection of many diverse fields. This scientific convergence of disciplines may improve society, and awareness of the healthy human brain as one of Earth’s key global resources for scientifically-based development. However, the scientific enterprise is also burdened with inefficient, aging research systems governing lab structure and collaboration, career development, publishing, education, funding, and public engagement. An improved multidimensional scientific ecosystem is needed to build a foundation for future global progress.
