Studying Japanese

The University of Tokyo provides opportunities for international students and foreign researchers to learn Japanese at the Center for Japanese Language Education. In addition, some Faculties or Graduate Schools offer their own Japanese language classes. For details on these two learning options, please visit the page below.

There are also various off-campus opportunities to study Japanese, including privately-operated Japanese language schools, Japanese classes sponsored by certain municipalities, and Japanese classes offered by volunteers (such classes are available in Bunkyo-ku). Students and researchers also are encouraged to look into these opportunities.
