The Kashiwa Research Complex currently houses the Center for Spatial Information Science.
The Center for Spatial Information Science was established in 1998 and has been designated as a national joint-use research institute since 2006. The Center pursues research into general methods of systematically constructing, managing, analyzing, integrating and distributing spatial data (data clarifying spatial locations or territories; in other words, attribute data related to nature, society, the economy and culture), as well as research into the application of these general methods to a variety of disciplines. As a hub of geographic information systems (GIS) -related research in Japan, the Center strives for the creation, deeper understanding and propagation of spatial information science.
