Please note that requirements of language proficiency sometimes vary depending on the faculties/departments even in a partner university. If you are not sure about the eligibility/requirement of a partner university, please address your question through the faculty/graduate school of your current affiliation.
※ Sometimes it takes time to confirm with a partner university. Please make sure to inquire well in advance.
Please submit a score for an English proficiency test which meet the requirements set by a partner university. (A web score report is acceptable.) The score must still be valid as on the reference date which is set for each call for application. For the details, please refer to the application guidelines.

e.g.) Tsinghua University (Chinese language): HSK (new) level V
Strasbourg University (French language): DELF/DALF/TCF/TEF B1 or higher
In case a partner university does not set a requirement for a language proficiency, students need to meet CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Language) B1 or higher as a requirement of UTokyo.
If you cannot submit a score sheet or proof of language proficiency
Please submit a document certifying language proficiency written by a faculty who is in charge of a foreign language course at UTokyo (original hard copy in the designated format). The form must be in English or the language in which the student is going to study at the host university.
If you are going to use both English and a language other than English
Please submit a score sheet/proof of language proficiency for both languages. If a partner university does not set requirements for both language, please makes sure you meet requirements set by UTokyo.
