11 Prerequisites ・Only students who are registered for one of the non-language GUC courses are allowed to apply.
・This course is aimed at complete beginners with no previous knowledge of the Japanese language.
・This course can be taken without any knowledge of Hiragana and Katakana.
12 Contents Purpose
The aim of this course is to provide beginner level international students with useful Japanese phrases and vocabulary necessary to deal with communication in daily life. Students who successfully complete this course will learn the following:
・Useful expressions: greetings, self-introduction, etc.
・Basic words and phrases: indicating time, prices, etc.
・Basic conversation in daily life: shopping, having a meal, etc.

Description
This course is offered as an online (live) virtual class. This course is designed so that you will be able to use your Japanese in your daily life in Japan and communicate with people in variety of settings. In this 5-day course, you will learn the minimum level of daily Japanese for survival. You will be able to ask for the meaning of unknown words in Japanese and ask for help if you do not understand the language. Students will learn elementary grammar and vocabulary through practice during class. They will also learn conversation skills for different situations, especially through a form of interviewing is called "Conversation Challenge".
 
*This is a combination of lecture and interactive class that simulates face-to-face sessions. In principle, therefore, the students are requested to have their camera on during the class.  Active participation is strongly encouraged.
 
Schedule
Session 1:
・Goal: CAN~ offer something, make request, ask permission with a minimum of Japanese
・Items: expressions for greetings, Noun sentences, 'N no N', Number (up to 100) etc.
Session 2:
・Goal: CAN~ ask for  necessary things at stores, restaurants, etc.
・Items: 'N des ka?', 'arimaska?', Number (up to 10,000), Counting money etc.
Session 3:
・Goal: CAN~ ask about events:
・Items: Interrogative words, Particle 'tte' etc.
Session 4:
・Goal: CAN~ talk about daily life
・Items: Verb sentences, Invitations, Days of the week, Time words (days) etc.
Session 5:
・Goal: CAN~ get information, recommended restaurants and shops
・Items:'Vtai n des kedo.' 'doo des ka?' etc.

Assignments
Students are required to complete a worksheet provided every day (1-2 pages). Students are expected to spend about one hour every day reviewing the day's lesson.
