UTokyo Global Summer Program (IARU Courses)

Intensive summer courses for highly talented students from partner universities

The University of Tokyo offers Global Summer Program (GSP), an exclusive program for students from the world's leading universities, for the summer of 2020. These intensive, one to two-week courses will be offered to further enhance the mobility of students between UTokyo and its select partners.

Eligibility

Applicants must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student of a university that is a member of The International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU) or UTokyo's Strategic Partner universities with a Student Exchange Agreement.

Each course has different prerequisites.

Program fee

JPY 75,000 per course (Approx. USD 700)
The program fee must be paid in full after admission is confirmed in April by credit card ONLY.

*If you participate in more than one course, please pay the total amount of tuition fees online.
* As a rule, we do not refund the program fee once payment has been completed. 

 

Accommodation

Students are responsible for arranging their own accommodation. If requested, the university may be able to book a room in a hotel near the university for you.
Payment for accommodations is the sole responsibility of the students.

The following documents are required to be submitted online.
    1) An application form
    2) An OFFICIAL transcript(s) from all the institutions of higher education one has attended.   
    3) Grading scale (if not mentioned in the above official transcript)
    4) Proof(s) of Language Proficiency
        2~4 )Please scan and save the data as a PDF file.
    5) Color ID photo, plain background (taken within the last 3 months)
    6) Passport copy (pages showing passport number and face photo required)

Language Requirement

UTokyo GSP will be taught in English. For students whose first language is not English or who are enrolled in an educational institution where English is not the primary language of instruction, submission of an official certificate that shows the following level of language proficiency is required. 

TOEFL iBT 90 or above
IELTS 6.5 or above
Cambridge English Qualifications "C1 Advanced"
*Only an official unexpired score certificate is accepted.
*TOEFL(iBT) “MyBest scores” is not accepted.

If you do not have an English language certificate but are currently enrolled in a program where the primary language of instruction is English, please submit an official letter attesting your English language skills.

Credits

Sustainable Urban Management, Japan in Today's World and Nanoscience courses are worth 2 University of Tokyo credits.
Students who successfully finish the Introduction to the Japanese Language course will be given a certificate of completion.
