Grant-in-Aid for Transformative Research Areas ― Platforms for Advanced Technologies and Research Resources ,Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan

A program to provide technical and resource support* for advanced problem-solving endeavors in individual research projects funded by the Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (Kakenhi), through close collaboration among related core institutions, including domestic inter-university joint use organizations, as well as domestic and international joint use/research centers. At the same time, this program is meant to promote collaboration among researchers, fusion of different fields, and human resource development in an integrated manner. There are four platforms dedicated to the life sciences sector. In addition, the platform for radioisotopes (RIs) is operated by Osaka University.

CoBiA: Platform of Supporting Cohort Study and Biospecimen Analysis (Core institute: UTokyo) The collecting, storing, and provision of human biological specimens and related resources that form the basis of research, and also the provision of support for advanced molecular analysis and techniques for analyzing biomedical information and the like.

ABiS: Advanced Bioimaging Support (Core institutes: National Institute for Physiological Sciences/National Institute for Basic Biology) Optical, electron, and magnetic resonance imaging support, and image analysis support, such as extraction and quantification of biological significance.

AdAMS: Advanced Animal Model Support (Core institute: UTokyo) The integrating of advanced and specialized technologies to produce advanced animal models of high academic value, and the provision of analytical and molecular profiling support.

PAGS: Platform for Advanced Genome Science (Core institute: National Institute of Genetics) Accelerate and develop Grants-in-Aid research with state-of-the-art genome analysis and information analysis technologies to promote peak research and broaden the base of the life sciences.

RIPF: Supply Platform of Short-lived Radioisotopes (Core institute: Research Center for Nuclear Physics, Osaka University) The provision of research-use radioisotopes and support of its safe handling for promotion of basic research and development with radioisotopes.

*In addition to offering shared use of facilities and technical support for researchers in a wide range of research fields and disciplines, this platform is involved in the collection, preservation, and provision of resources (materials, data, experimental samples, specimens, etc.).
