The University of Tokyo UTokyo Grant for Academic Publications (UTokyo Jiritsu Award for Early Career Academics)

Summary The program seeks to support the careers of exceptional young researchers by promoting the dissemination of significant research results attained at UTokyo and providing support for the publication of outstanding research accomplishments. Selected publications will also receive a UTokyo Jiritsu Award for Early Career Academics. Publications supported by the program have received praise from outside the university, and many have received awards.
Target
  1. Researchers who have completed a UTokyo doctoral program and who, at the time of application, are within six years of the first day of the academic year following the year in which the doctorate was awarded.
  2. Researchers who were enrolled in a UTokyo doctoral program for the prescribed period, completed the curriculum, but left before obtaining a doctoral degree, and were subsequently awarded a doctoral degree by UTokyo. In addition, at the time of application, the applicant must be within six years of the first day of the academic year following the year in which the doctorate was awarded.
  3. Researchers employed by UTokyo as research associates who did not complete a doctoral program but who submitted a research associate dissertation equivalent to a doctoral dissertation. In addition, at the time of application, the applicant must be within six years of the first day of the academic year following the year in which the dissertation was submitted.
Support Details A grant of up to JPY 1 million per work for the publication of a doctoral dissertation, research associate dissertation, or work based on these dissertations.
