Summary This program provides long-term support, generally for a period of seven years (with an mid-term stage-gate evaluation, maximum of 10 years), with the goal of advancing “emerging research” that will generate the seeds for revolutionary new innovations through diversity and integration rather than the setting of specific targets or short-term goals and by creating environments in which researchers can focus solely on research and pursue a wide range of challenging and integrative research without being constrained by existing disciplines.
