Summary This program supports the overseas travel of young researchers by providing financial support. The menu has been revised to address the diverse needs regarding overseas travel, such as the target and the content of support. The Program aims to help UTokyo’s talented early-career researchers develop their careers strategically by promoting opportunities to study at overseas institutions. This program aims to further improve the research capabilities of our university by invigorating the overseas research activities of our researchers, by providing support to cover a part of the round-trip transportation expenses (hereinafter, ”transportation support”), accommodation expenses (hereinafter, ”accommodation support”), or other expenses necessary to create an environment in which researchers can be dispatched overseas (hereinafter, ”department support”) for their research-abroad period.
Target Faculty members*1, project faculty members or project researchers*2 employed by UTokyo
*1 UTokyo faculty member as defined in Article 2, Paragraph 1 of The University of Tokyo Regulations on Conditions of Employment of Academic Staff includes professors, associate professors, lecturers, research associates, or research assistants.
*2 UTokyo project faculty member as defined in Article 2, Paragraph 2 of The University of Tokyo Regulations on Conditions of Employment of fixed-term Project Academic and Administrative Staff including Project Professors, Project Associate Professors, Project Lecturers/Project Assistant Professors, Project Research Associates/Project Assistant Professors, and UTokyo Project Researchers as defined in Article 2, Paragraph 3 of same Regulations includes Project Researchers.
Note: Applicants must be within 15 years of earning their doctoral degree or, for those who do not possess a doctoral degree, within 15 years of becoming a faculty member or researcher (including Fixed-term Project Academic Staff).
Support Details ・Secondment period: Between 1 week and 1 year.
・Allowance: JPY 600,000 (expected payment)
*Regardless of the length of the research-abroad period, this amount is uniformly provided as “transportation support”, “accommodation support”, and “department support”.
*Since the Program provides partial budgetary support to departments, there are no particular restrictions on using other external funds in addition to the Program’s financial support package. However, the rules and regulations of the external funding program used must be complied with.
* This program may also be used in conjunction with the sabbatical leave program designed to allow faculty members to devote themselves to independent research activities.
